Reciprocal directory refers to web directory that require you to put a reciprocal link on your site. Most of them time these type of directory are crowded with links and spammers. Linking to them can actually be harmful to your linking score. Most search engines will detect your "bad neighbors". By linking to them, you are casting a vote to a bad source. As a result, will hurt your overall linking scores.
