Glossary Term: Slashes
Slashes are how deep in path the folder goes. For instance, usually home page is at the first level (www.imperialdirectory.com). Sub-folder is the second level (www.imperialdirectory.com/Glossary/). The sub-folder of it is third level (www.imperialdirectory.com/Glossary/term/) and so on. Usually sub-folders are less important than main folders. Search engine gives a much lower ranking score to pages with more than 4 slashes, or pages lower than level four.
Although pages from with more than 4 slashes receive a lower ranking score, but that does not means it cannot receive a decent search engine ranking position (SERP). As long as the page is well optimized, it can still be the on top of a popular keyword. Afterall slashes is not a major factor in search engine optimization (SEO). But every little thing may help in the long run.
